Seattle's New Elementary Teacher!

10/04/2018
This year, we have added a new member to our team of staff. Mrs. Todd.

Here are some questions and her responses about school in general and her experience at the Seattle Campus so far:

  1. Why did you become a teacher? Several of my Dad's sisters were teachers, so it runs in the family. I'd wanted to become a teacher for awhile, but the roadmap for getting there was challenging. I'm self-supporting and had to quit a full time job and move in with family in order to accomplish this goal.
  2. What do you think of technology in the classroom? I love it and the possibilities for learning and exploration it creates when properly used. I'm not as tech proficient as I'd like to be, so I'm working on it.
  3. A teacher's job is to teach, obviously. Yet what have students here at Sterling taught you? I've always said I learn as much from my students as they learn from me! So far this year, for example, I've learned more about horses and other animals than I ever knew. One of my students reads fine print like an attorney and sets me straight every once in a while. I've also learned that Sterling students are a persistent group. They work hard 'til they get the job done!
  4. What is your favorite subject? I have several. Literature is one, along with science and geography. I'm a book and dictionary freak. I've been reading voraciously since my Dad pulled tubes out of our TV set and told us it was broken when I was about 7. I love words, so the dictionary became a good friend. There's so much more than words you can learn from a dictionary; check it out! I know many of you like to travel and so do I, so the geography makes sense, doesn't it? As for science, today's magic is tomorrow's science. If we can dream of it, someone will make it happen sooner or later.
  5. What was the biggest thing you took away from Teachers' Academy? That being new anywhere usually isn't a lot of fun but that I'm in good company with lots of smart people who are trying to find their way too. I'm so impressed with how much support Sterling offers their employees!
