Oodles of Doodles!
Teacher's Perspective: Mr. Van Ess
On Wednesday evening, I had the pleasure of being able to
attend the Gothenburg town hall. From the onset, it was evident that SDL was to
be the central theme of the event. There were informative work stations for
Living the values, Canvas, and SDL; which were great complimentary items to the
open format and central display of student work. It was extremely impressive to
see how much thought the students put in to the marketing for this event. The
aptly named "Oodles of Doodles" allowed for staff and community to go on a
gallery walk to see student projects from past/present. I really enjoyed
getting the opportunity to see community give their own take on living the
values and give the students feedback on their hard work. Homemade snacks,
refreshments, and an outstanding lighting display helped to cap off the event. I'm
so glad I had the opportunity to attend this type of town hall that I see as
extremely creative and innovative. I hope this can lay the groundwork for many
of the events that we put on, it allows for us to showcase SDL in a very
authentic way. The hard work and effort to put on this event should be
commended. Way to go Gothenburg!
Student's Perspective: Natalie Sitorius
This was a very fun night! The SLT, us students, and parents, I think all really enjoyed
ourselves. Oodles of Doodles was a night
that students showcased all their artwork to parents, staff, children, and
grandparents. The students and staff
could bring in whatever they made with their hands (or computer). Wow, it sure was surprising how many things
people have done, or how many artists there were. There were games and delicious snacks as
well. The games were, Rook, Pin the
Carrot on the Snowman, 5 second games, Pictionary, and Snowball Toss into a
snowman (beanbag toss). My favorite game
was probably Pin the Carrot on the Snowman. We had to get blindfolded then spun around. Next, we had to go try to find the snowman. Wherever you touched first, is where you
had to put the nose. Some people ended
up completely on the other walls. I
never got first, but Blake Rowden and Silas Block got straight on!
