Middle School Practical & Applied Arts: Pembina
In Practical and Applied Arts this quarter we have been doing a lot of really fun and unique projects. Just last week we made gingerbread houses, string art, and drink coasters.
We had 45 minutes to make our gingerbread houses. Some of the ingredients that we used were graham crackers, gum drops, frosting, and lots and lots of candy. The finished product turned out great! There was a beach house, an old-fashioned hotel, and a traditional gingerbread house. We ran into some problems including the roof falling down on the traditional house and the beach house collapsed. It was all part of the fun and we managed to get pictures of all of them before they were devoured.
Our teacher brought in slabs of wood that she had cut for our coasters. They were really rough so we sanded them all down until they were smooth. The next day we all brought our polyurethane which is the smooth coating we put overtop of them. The coasters all differed slightly because of the different kinds of polyurethane we used but the outcome was amazing.
