Elementary Classroom in Council Bluffs

09/21/2018

This year in elementary we have been reading many interesting books in our "What a Character" unit. Sixth graders have been studying rates, ratios, percentages, decimals, and fractions in math. Third and fourth graders are learning addition properties, basic algebra, and subtraction across zeros. We are learning the properties of and changes in substances in science. We've studied mechanics, sentence structure and many more things in grammar. The kids just completed unit 4 in spelling. We have started to really enjoy discovery time. On September 19th we hiked the bluffs that are 5 minutes from our school. We found milkweed, and giant moths. With further study, we learned that the sap from milkweed is said to heal warts, and the roots can be chewed to cure dysentery. The kids have put together small solar machines, and learned the basics of crochet in discovery time.
